Freedom of speech

Frequently I hear talk about free speech on the news and from other media sources. People are stating that their freedom of speech has been denied or they have received a slap on the hand for speaking their mind. I guess I never paid much attention to it until today.

I came in and checked my blog this morning to see the comments made about a recent entry titled “Children”. I noticed that the original blog had been changed, albeit minor changes, but changed just the same. I knew the source of who changed it and confronted that person. This person made valid points as to why they changed the information but it saddens me that we as citizens need to be so guarded. I have to be careful of what I say because someone out in the world may read it and misconstrue it or even believe they must take action against me for something I said. It amazes me that people have so much time on their hands and nothing better to do than to find things wrong with everyone else.

In the future I hope the editor of my blog notifies me of any changes they see fit before they decide to change my words. I am a person that will speak my mind if I feel strongly about something and hopefully I am not censored for it.

I remember a key piece of text that doesn’t seeem to be there now. Truthfully, something like the a slightly amused “Uh, oh. Careful what you say ” whizzed thru my mind as a passing thought(it was that brief). But it never would have occurred to me as anything to seriously be concerned about.

I suppose there are people with either so much time or (more likely) so much need to control other people’s lives that they would make trouble out of an idle comment like that. I blame our politically correct society. (Oooh, I *am* getting a bit more conservative as I age!). If more busybodies and ridiculous lawsuits were actually called ridiculous and tossed out before even getting their day in court we’d be better off. But, no, we have to let everyone have their say.

Am I rambling? Ah, it’s that kind of day. Perhaps I should write a blog….

Hey! He stripped out a couple of my “{grin}”s even as the comment was posted. Prior restraint, yer honor! I want my day in court!

We can’t afford any legal expense. We have nothing, bordering on destitute. I don’t want anyone taking what little we have left. You think we’re under stress now?!
