Godzilla, Dragon and Dynamite???

My husband loves Sushi!  I have tried it once a very long time ago and I didn’t care for it very much. My ground rules for even trying sushi are: No raw meat of any kind and no different types of meat or vegetable that I wouldn’t normally eat.  Much to my husbands delight I took him to Blowfish Sushi for his birthday dinner. I could tell that my husband was very excited about me being in a sushi restaurant and even more excited by the possibility I may even eat sushi. We did not have reservations but we were able to sit at the sushi bar which if you haven’t done is an experience in itself.  It is an art form to see these sushi chefs prepare the different types of sushi and the presentation of every dish is a work of art.

My entrée didn’t involve sushi of any kind but the presentation was beautiful. The chefs take care of the details on every plate and it showed in the many dishes we observed being delivered to other patrons of the restaurant. I decided on the Filet Mignon , wasabi mashed potatoes, crisp wafer chips with sautéed mushrooms, and  a vegetable chutney. My husband ordered his first of four Maki rolls which was a Godzilla and had the shrimp been cooked I would have tried this one because the overall combination sounded like something I would have eaten. He then ordered a Super Dynamite roll and the Breaded Ebi for me to try per the waiter’s suggestion.  Surprisingly I enjoyed the Breaded Ebi and would order it again. As the Maki rolls came I was still enjoying my main entrée and would take time out to try the sushi if they followed my rules.  The last roll to come was the Dragon which had avocado, cooked shrimp and cooked eel.  I have to say this was not one that I liked very much.  It wasn’t revolting I just didn’t care for the taste of the eel or the sauce or the combination of the two.  So this is not one that I would order again.

My overall experience at Blowfish Sushi was a positive one and I am sure that my husband will be able to enjoy sushi more often.  I’m more open to trying the sushi and I might even find something that I like more than the Breaded Ebi.  Although it was my husbands birthday it was fun seeing him excited about me eating it.
