A sticky situation…

As always we try to do our part in protecting the environment by recycling as much as we can and taking things to the hazardous waste drop off instead of throwing them in the trash. Today was my appointment for taking things to the hazardous waste.

I loaded up the car with paint cans and various bottles of stuff that was in our shed when we moved in 9 years ago. I got in the car and headed over to the drop off place and about half way there I heard something slide and shatter. I was a bit confused as I know I didn’t have any glass containers in the back and was not sure what it was that broke. You have to stay in the car when you get to the place to drop everything off so I didn’t see what happened until I got home.

One of the plastic bottles that had been sitting outside in the elements had become very brittle and when it slid and fell over it shattered like glass. Unfortunately it was a plastic bottle with some kind of adhesive and I’m not sure what the adhesive was normally used for but it was now all over my car. Richard and I didn’t know how much was in the back until I started taking things out of the cubby and saw about 2 inches of this liquid glue in the cubby.

Thankfully Richard helped me dismantle the back end of my car. With every part that was removed we found more and more glue under everything. It had run down into the depths of my car below my spare tire. I spent the next couple of hours sopping up and washing down as much as I could get to and letting the things I washed down with the hose stand in the sun to dry.

Not what I would call a great way to start the day.
